Autumn has arrived which means one thing…leaves. They gather in beautiful rich autumn colours around the garden and seem almost a daily task to clear away. But don’t waste by throwing in your garden bin turn them into nutrient rich compost  known as leafmould.

How to make your leafmould

Fill household black bags with your collected leaves; add a few holes to let them breathe and stopping them turning slimy. Once you have filled the bag, add a little water tie it up pop it somewhere dark and voilà leave nature to do it thing. They will be ready for use next year. If you have patience leave them even longer, the level of humus will become higher making it ideal for enriching the soil in your polytunnel raised beds.
